Collecting Hamish in Rochester
The day began with a routine dog transport from Northampton to Land’s End. Due to traffic issues, we were rerouted and then headed south to Rochester, just below London. Hamish, our furry passenger, was arriving in the UK and risked an overly long journey if we hadn’t stepped in.
Rochester holds a special place in our driver’s heart – it’s an old haunt from their lorry-driving days. Of course, stopping by a beloved café for a coffee and a sausage and bacon baguette was a must! Fuelled up and ready to go, Hamish hopped aboard our dog transport vehicle, tail wagging and ready for adventure.
Scenic Stops and a Special Lunch Partner
The journey from Rochester to Land’s End spanned 310 miles, but we made it memorable with plenty of stops along the way. Our route took us towards Southampton, onto the A303, and past the iconic Stonehenge – a perfect spot for a lunch break!
Hamish, ever the social butterfly, joined our driver in the front seat for a chill session. “He was the best lunch partner,” our driver recalls. “No crumbs left behind!”
After 15-20 minutes of rest (and a few puppy cuddles), we hit the road again. A final pit stop just south of Exeter gave Hamish a chance to stretch his legs and sniff some new smells.

As we approached Land’s End, excitement bubbled. Hamish’s new family greeted us with beaming smiles, and the confident pup leapt straight into their arms with no hesitation! His first introduction to his forever home. A majestic Maine Coon cat, who coolly accepted her new canine sibling. (Fun fact: Maine Coons are one of the largest domesticated cat breeds. Perfect for keeping up with a lively pup like Hamish!)
The family generously packed our driver with snacks and drinks for the return trip. Though we’d planned a halfway stop for rest, the joy of the day kept energy high, and we powered through all the way home.
